Social Networking

Social Networking is helpful in marketing companies. Social Networking sites like Facebook is useful for companies to advertise.  Using a social networking site, companies are able to promote their products free at charge. It would be a disadvantage if a company didn’t have a Facebook or Twitter. Without social networking, companies would depend on newpapers or commercials to deliver their message. According to the article, "Being There: The subtle art of Facebook update." by Virginia Heffernan, she is talking about how facebook is always updated and it keeps you updated about society and your friends.  From the article "Social Networking Technology Boosts Job Recruiting" by Frank Langfitt, Employers can locate future employees from their social networking site. Social Networking sites can lead to potential employment with just one click away.

There is always a dark side to social networking sites. Social networking sites like Facebook collects personal information from the user. The privacy is exposed and all your personal information is on the world wide web. Employers are now using social networking when it comes to hiring. Even with an impressive resume, any photos that deal with partying and inappropriate behavior can make an employer change their mind of hiring you. I believe social networking will make an impact on the finance world. With marketplace already in social networking sites, but now investment can be taken to a whole new level. This will allow you to have a faster way to promote your assets and have money growth.

Blogs vs. Wikis

Blogs and Wikis have a lot of similarities but blogs are usually where a person can voiced their opinions. Blogs share many social roles like contributions and sharing of ideas. From New York Times article, "Brooklyn Blog Helps Lead to Drug Raid," it talks about how a neighborhood wrote blogs due to suspicious activities in the neighborhood. With the help of the blogs, the police were able to arrest 3 brothers who now face conspiracy, drugs and weapons charges. This shows how important blogging is. It allows people to read important information on what is going on.

Wiki is different from blogs because wiki gives facts about a topic. Wiki allow people to edit information about a topic. Unlike blogs where one person post their thoughts, wiki can be edited and updated by different users. According to the article "How to Use Wikis for Business" by Ezra Goodnoe, it shows how business uses Wiki to keep their business updated and edited by other workers. This shows Wiki is trying to provide facts on their websites rather than people opinions.

Convergence is important in educating people. Back in the day, people would tell each other stories but now people can read other people ideas and opinions on the internet. An example is BayRidgeTalk.com, it converges the people in the neighborhood with news like the arrest of the local drug dealers.

Wiki can be use to work on programs like software/hardware. They are always in demand from the people on the internet and have different teams working on them. It would be easier if they develop the wiki and then they can input their programming on it.

New Media and Sports

The topic of my project is about how New Media and sports are connected. I will be doing research on how the internet had made an impact on the world of sports for people to see. From my research, I will talk about the positive and negative of new media in the world of sports. I will be examining many different sports websites and see how they have changed over the past few decades. Also, I would like to find out how new media and sports affect us socially, technologically and economically. I will also talk about how new media such as television and mobile phone are connected with sports.
